Save Public Lands Day Petition Privacy Policy

Effective date: 7 August 2026 | Last updated: 7 August 2026

1. Who We Are

Save Public Lands Day ("SPLD," "we," "us") is a campaign stewarded by Duct Tape Then Beer (DTTB), in partnership with founding organizations The Wilderness Society, Outdoor Alliance, The Conservation Alliance, MeatEater, and Backcountry Hunters and Anglers (the "Founding Partners"), along with other participating nonprofit organizations, outdoor brands, and media companies (each, a "Partner," collectively the "Coalition"). This policy explains what information we collect when you sign the Save Public Lands Day petition, how it is used, and how it may be shared with Coalition Partners.

The petition and website are technically hosted and administered by Outdoor Alliance (OA), which acts as the technical custodian of all data collected through this campaign, including data attributed to any Partner via that Partner's unique referral link.

2. What We Collect

When you sign the petition, we collect:

  • Your name

  • Your email address

  • Your zip code

  • The "market source" tag associated with the link you used to reach the petition, if any (see Section 3)

We do not knowingly collect sensitive personal information (such as financial account numbers, government ID numbers, or health information) through the petition.

3. How Your Signature Is Attributed

Each Partner uses a unique tracking link — embedding a "market source" tag (for example, /oa or /outdooralliance) — to drive its own audience to the petition. If you sign after clicking a Partner's link, your signature and contact information will be tagged as originating from that Partner.

If you sign the petition directly — for example, through SPLD's general website, social channels, or a creator/media post not tied to a specific Partner's link — your signature will not carry a market source tag. See Section 4 below for how this "unattributed" data may also be shared.

4. How Your Information Is Shared With Coalition Partners

Attributed signatures (signed via a Partner's link). No later than October 19, 2026, or at the conclusion of the signature-gathering campaign, whichever is later, OA will export to each Partner the email addresses and signature data collected under that Partner's own market source tag.

In addition to this data export, each Partner separately chooses, in its MOU with SPLD, one of the following treatments for the data collected under its tag with regard to data retained by OA:

  • Retain and contact: OA retains the email addresses and signature data collected under a Partner's tag, and OA may contact those signers directly for its own purposes (which may be unrelated to SPLD's campaign correspondence described in Section 5); or

  • Delete after export: OA deletes the email addresses and signature data collected under a Partner's tag once the export has been delivered, and OA does not retain or use that data further.

Because this choice is made independently by each Partner, whether your information is retained — and whether that specific Partner may contact you directly — depends on which Partner's link you used to sign, and that Partner's election.

Unattributed signatures (signed without a Partner-specific link). If you sign the petition without a market source tag — for instance, through SPLD's own social channels, creator content, or general website traffic — your information is not automatically shared with any Partner. However, each Founding Partner (The Wilderness Society, Outdoor Alliance, The Conservation Alliance, MeatEater, and Backcountry Hunters and Anglers) may separately elect to receive a data export of all unattributed email addresses and signature data. If a Founding Partner has made this election, your information may be included in that export even if you did not sign through that organization's link.

We do not sell your information. SPLD and its Partners do not sell petition signer data to third parties, advertisers, or data brokers.

5. How SPLD Will Email You

Throughout the campaign, petition signatories will periodically receive general campaign correspondence from Save Public Lands Day, managed by Duct Tape Then Beer on behalf of the Partners. This correspondence is limited to:

  • Updates on campaign progress (for example, signature-count milestones and calls to share with your community)

  • Announcements about Public Lands Day volunteer days and activations, targeted to your geographic region where possible

  • Relevant storytelling and links to media coverage

SPLD will not contact signatories about:

  • Any activity outside the bounds of what is permitted for 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations, including candidate scorecards, voter guides, or candidate endorsements

  • Fundraising appeals, for SPLD or any other organization

This general correspondence comes from SPLD regardless of which link you used to sign, and is separate from any direct communications a Partner may send you under its own retention election described in Section 4.

6. Your Choices

  • Opting out of SPLD correspondence: Every email from Save Public Lands Day includes an unsubscribe link.

  • Partner communications: If a Partner has elected to retain and contact signers under Section 4, you can stop receiving that Partner's communications directly through the unsubscribe option in their emails or by contacting them directly.

  • Requesting your data: To ask what information SPLD, OA, or a specific Partner holds about you, contact Becca Cahall at sayhi@ducttapethenbeer.com

7. Data Security

OA maintains the petition platform with reasonable administrative and technical safeguards designed to protect your information. No online system can be guaranteed 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee the security of information transmitted to us.

8. Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy as the campaign evolves, including as new Partners join or elections change. Material changes will be reflected by an updated "Last updated" date at the top of this page.
